Panic Attack at McDonald’s

June 12th, 2003 · 1 Comment

Yesterday was McDonald’s lunch day for Allie’s kindergarten class. So, Camryn, Seth and I walked with Allie and her class from school to McDonald’s. So did another kindergarten class. Keep in mind that the McDonald’s here serves just our neighborhood so it’s not big, especially the play area.

Camryn was very excited to play with all the big kids and to go down the big slide with Allie’s help. Once all the kids finished eating they were turned loose, all 50 of them, onto the climbing toys. So, I was busy feeding Seth anything he could get his hands on when one of the kids from class came up to me, out of breath and mumbling something about Camryn being stuck and kids hitting her. Needless to say, I left Seth to his own devices (and he sure helped himself) and I ran up the cramped, winding steps to a dark, enclosed platform where Allie was shielding Camryn from the monster ahead that all the other kids were talking about. I couldn’t pry Camryn’s hands off of my arms, she attached herself to me like a monkey and screamed if I tried to put her down. Going back through the tunnel and down the steps was useless as there were about 15 kids trying to cram into the tunnel. So, just as I was about to pass out from the lack of oxygen or have a panic attack in the tiny space where I couldn’t even stand up, I somehow managed to get Camryn to crawl her way up more steps to the long, enclosed, twisty slide. Yelling at every kid in my way to move, we finally made it out of the slide just in time to see Seth devour the remains of Camryn’s lunch. She has since decided that she wants to go to McDonald’s for her next Daddy-daughter date when there aren’t so many kids there. JB has been put on notice that I don’t ever want to go there for a date!
