Today we took Seth to get his first set of portraits at the portrait studio at Wal-Mart. The girls were really good while we tried to get Seth to look anywhere remotely close to the camera. Camryn was taking….
in the whole spectacle of Mom and Dad waving, spitting, cooing, and shaking toys in an attempt to get Seth to smile. The photographer was a very nice, professional woman who had short hair, no makeup, a deep voice, and was wearing jeans and an oxford. Camryn looked her up and down, and then quietly asked Susie if “that is a girl or a boy?” Understandably, Susie wanted to avoid this discussion, so she ignored Camryn. So Camryn waited a little bit, and then asked again, and again got the same response. Finally, undeterred by social convention, Camryn looked at Susie, looked at the photographer, and almost yelled “IS THAT A GIRL OR A BOY??”. Camryn will not let you ignore her.
Neither of us knew what to say. Finally, the photographer said “A girl – with a very deep voice – who forgot to put on her mascara today”. Apparently, that satisfied Camryn, and we were more than happy to pay for out pictures and leave…
